'Flock'
(VSFX-350, Deborah Fowler, Spring 2024)
Responsible for all aspects except: HDRI from Poly Haven
The goal of this project was to build a complex scene in roughly three weeks. There are three main elements of the scene: the bridge, fog, and the birds.
First, the bridge uses a procedural method of construction in order to extend the length if needed later in the process.
Second, the fog uses a simple volume wrangle that determines the density of the fog relative to the camera position.
Lastly, the flocking of birds is driven using a particle system, in which the particles are effected by curl noise, drag, and position relative to others.
Using Nuke, I then created a sun flare in order to emphasize the transforming shape of the bird flock.
If I could make any changes, I would change the sun flare to something more subtle and add more detailed materials.
